When political parties lose their decency and integrity, they abandon the principles that should guide them which is honesty, accountability, and service to the people. Instead, they pursue power and personal gain. This weakens public trust and threatens national stability.
The ongoing political turmoil in South Sudan, marked by internal party conflicts and power struggles, raises serious concerns about our country’s democratic transition. Events such as the case of Hussein Abdul Bagi, and now the divisions within the SPLM-IO, reveal a deepening crisis in leadership and a lack of commitment to core political values.
South Sudanese politicians must choose a clear path: either continue down the road of power greed and division, or return to the founding values unity, justice, the rule of law, and respect for the constitution.
When political parties violate their own principles, and the Council of Political Parties remains silent, the entire system is compromised. It sets a dangerous precedent where laws are ignored, institutions are weakened, and democracy becomes merely a slogan rather than a lived reality.
These developments compel every citizen to question whether our leaders are truly committed to building a peaceful and democratic South Sudan. Without accountability and moral leadership, the vision for our nation will remain unfulfilled.
