The United Labour Party of South Sudan (ULPOSS) strongly condemns the recent armed confrontations between the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) and the South Sudan Defence Forces (SSPDF) along our shared border.
We recognize that longstanding border disputes exist between our two countries. However, such issues must be addressed through peaceful negotiation, diplomacy, and adherence to international law. Military escalation is not the answer—it places innocent lives at risk, destabilizes the region, and undermines the spirit of cooperation between our peoples.
South Sudan is currently facing internal challenges, but this should not be misinterpreted as a justification for external provocation or encroachment. We urge the Ugandan government and the UPDF to act responsibly and to refrain from taking advantage of our nation’s transitional period.
ULPOSS calls upon both governments to:
• Cease all hostilities immediately
• Engage in direct dialogue through diplomatic and regional channels
• Seek third-party mediation, if necessary, to resolve disputes peacefully
The people of South Sudan and Uganda deserve peace, security, and mutual respect. As a political party committed to justice, sovereignty, and democratic governance, ULPOSS urges all actors involved to prioritize regional stability over short-term interests or unilateral actions.
