NADC CALLS FOR POLITICAL ACCOUNTABILITY AND MERIT-BASED GOVERNANCE
The National Alliance for Democratic Change (NADC) has noted the statement issued by Hon. Ezekiel Lol Gatkuoth following his unsuccessful bid for the SPLM parliamentary nomination in Longechuk County.
NADC acknowledges his acceptance of the outcome and commitment to peaceful political engagement. However, the concerns he raised regarding alleged intimidation, misinformation and procedural irregularities warrant transparent examination through appropriate party mechanisms.
Previous public remarks attributed to Hon. Gatkuoth concerning political allegiance and personal loyalty to President Salva Kiir Mayardit have also generated debate about the relationship between public office, political patronage and national responsibility. The accuracy and context of those reported remarks remain subject to verification.
NADC maintains that the institutionalisation of political patronage undermines professional independence, weakens accountability and creates an environment in which allegiance to individuals may take precedence over constitutional obligations and the public interest.
The Alliance therefore affirms that, should it assume responsibility for government, appointments to public institutions will be guided by professional qualifications, competence, integrity, transparent procedures and demonstrated commitment to national service.
These standards will apply equally to all citizens, including Hon. Gatkuoth, irrespective of political background, ethnicity or previous government service. Public servants must be protected from arbitrary dismissal arising solely from changes in political leadership, while remaining accountable for their professional conduct and performance.
NADC further emphasises that political reconciliation must be accompanied by institutional accountability. Electoral grievances should be addressed impartially to strengthen public confidence in democratic processes.
South Sudan’s democratic future requires a transition from personalised political authority towards constitutional governance, institutional independence and an impartial public administration.
Public office is a responsibility entrusted by the Republic, not a privilege secured through personal allegiance.
NADC remains committed to advancing these principles through peaceful political engagement, national reconciliation and democratic institutional reform.
